Unsurprisingly, The Weeknd had a strong debut on the album chart this week as Starboy debuted at #1 with 348,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music. That’s the third-largest debut of 2016, behind only Drake’s Views (1.04 million units) and Beyonce’s Lemonade (653,000). As for The Weeknd’s overall sales, 209,000 were in traditional album sales and 117,000 of the total sum was driven by streaming units. Singer Sharon Jones passed away on Friday, November 18 at the age of 60 from pancreatic cancer. The soul singer spent much of her life working as a prison guard and an armored car guard before releasing her first album at the age of 40. Jones was backed by her band The Dap-Kings, who famously performed on Amy Winehouse‘s Back to Black album. Influential singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen has passed away at the age of 82. Sony Music Canada announced his death via the artist’s Facebook page. The statement reads, “It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date.
